Just an FYI for people in Rolla. Although I do not have exact detail, RMU will be turning off circuits around Rolla tonight for what I have gathered for short durations.
Beside this; I just came back from Wal-Mart and the power lines are in cased with ice, and they have ice sickles about 6+ inches all along the lines, also Wal-Mart was with out power when I got there...
To add to all this I could see what I believe to be a transformer shorting out to the "right" of Wal-Mart as your walking to it...
To sum up, I would try to prepare for additional power outages this evening.
If I can I will post updates from RMU radio traffic if needed...
If you do go out driving tonight be very careful especially in the neighborhoods as there are numerous tree limbs and large branches down all over town.

Power is out from about The Centre and east. Campus power is on. I came up here after I lost power at my apt.
Edit: After I saw this thread I looked at Rolla Daily News website as well as rollacity.org to see if I could find any information on the power outages. If this is a planned outage, I was hoping I could get some information on it. But neither site mention anything about it, 99.7 is off the air too, but thats to be expected, their overall quality on anything they do is incredibly low.

friday night i thought it to be a good idea to move my car from our back alley, and now there is a 20ft 6in diameter limb there, that also took down a power line in its path. lets just say i made a wise choice. ill get pics in the morning
so do i call RMU about that? the power line is on the ground, its not broken, just down.

It is sad how illogical people are sometimes. When there is a big storm, they expect that their power should be on in oh ten minutes or so. They don't realize how much work has to be done, and how few linemen an electric company has to keep on hand to have affordable electricity...
Not saying this to you guys, just making an observation from watching TV...

My power has gone off about 6 times today, sometimes for 5 or 10 min, sometimes for several hours. It's getting kind of annoying I wish it would decide what it wants to do, rather than going off and on repeatedly.

To all the people with power issues, I assume if your reading this your in a location with at least some power.
Here is at least a 3rd party update on what went on last night.
First RMU (and or their contractor) has been going all through the night to repair power lines. As noted the power for some has been going off and on, and while I understand this can be bothersome here is at least my understanding from their radio traffic.
RMU has been disconnecting downed lines, some of which were still live. To do this they have to turn off power to the primary lines that supply power to these secondary lines, thus cutting power temporally to some people. They have also been rerouting power it sounded like around these downed lines. They have been dealing with the slow procedure of bringing power back on to certain sections as not to overload any one system... As the night went on MORE lines came down, thus the whole process had to start again. While I know it sucks, I have heard the SAME guy from RMU running his ass all around town for at the very least 12 hours (the time I had the radio on) fixing issues out in the cold wet weather. I realize that this is what he is paid for, but still. Also I realize they could hire more people, but again, this is not a normal occurrence. Not sure what to say, but they are working on the issue...

We haven't had power since 7:30 Saturday night in Nag. Brrr..... They tried to get us rooms at a motel, but they didn't have power either. Then they said we could sleep in a study lounge in TJ. I decided I'd rather brave the apartment without heat than sleep in a TJ study lounge. They also said we might be lucky to get the power back on Tuesday...

That, an every time there's a storm in this town, people think they need to stockpile a month's worth of food. I get that folks want to be prepared, but at Wal-Mart Friday there were only like 3 loaves of bread on the shelves, and all the lines were filled with folks with overflowing carts. It's kinda annoying.

Jason, I think we all know that RMU is doing what they can to take care of the situation. I'm not mad at them, I know this was unavoidable, but that doesn't mean I can't be annoyed about the situation and bitch a little. I have not called RMU to complain, nor am I going to, but that doesn't mean I have to like the situation, or the weather.
