So since when does UPO have a gunmetal grey thirdgen Camaro and don't they have better things to spend money on?
If UPO really needed some sort of interceptor (which i kinda doubt) i think they'd be better off with a golf cart so they could chase offending students across campus
I didn't know it was UPO's I thought it was RPO's. In any case it's going to be semi-built and used as kind of a "D.A.R.E" car for events and such. They are looking for people to donate money and or time for it in exchange for some sponsorship ad placement.
In my fraternity they were looking for $5/person which I think was a little high, but you can donate if you want

Hopefully by the time you receive this email you will have already seen the University Police Camaro patroling the Campus of UMR. If you haven't seen it yet keep an eye out for it. I think all of you will really like what you see. Plus I am wanting to get each Fraternity and Sorority involved in my project I have going. First let me intorduce myself before I get to involved in telling you about this special car and project.
I am Officer Rick Walls with the University Police Department. This is my 21st year in police work. I spent 20 years in Crawford County on the Sheriff's Department and was the Chief Deputy for the last 8 years. I retired from the Sheriff's Department and joined the UMR Police Department on January the 3rd of 2006. So I have been hear on Campus for a year now, and can see a need for better communication between the University Police and the student body. I have one daughter who graduated from College of the Ozarks in December, and a son who is a Junior at College of the Ozarks. So I fully understand the demands and challenges of College life on a young adult. I can relate to the struggles you face in a college setting, and understand the need to cut loose and enjoy yourself with friends at times. But, I also understand the need for security and protection while you are at College and away from home.
Now back to the real reason for this email. I am putting together a Public Relations Police Car/Show car for the University of Missouri Rolla University Police Department. This is along the same lines of a D.A.R.E. car alot of Police Agencies use, but our car is geared more toward the College age crowd. We are going to take our car to events all over the Campus, plus to High Schools all over the State of Missouri when UMR goes to recruit new students. We are also going to lead the St. Pats Parade with our car, and take it to car shows and car cruises around the state.
This car is being put together at no cost to the University. I am doing this entire project strictly through donations from businesses and individuals around the area. I am doing this project with the help of a few fellow Police Officers, but I would like to enlist the help of all of you guys and girls. I would like to be able to receive a small donation from every Fraternity and Sorority here at UMR. In return for a donation we will have your House recognized as a sponsor for our car. I will have your House symbol placed on a piece of smoke tinted plexiglass, and it will be set out by the car at all events I take the car to. This will show everyone that your House sponsored this Police Car/Show Car. The donation I am seaching is a small one of only $5.00 a person from each House. I have already been received a donation from the Triangle Fraternity, and they are frabricating race parts to be used on the car. So in return for their generous contribution to our project their Triangle T Fraternity symbol is already displayed on the back window of the car. Thanks guys for the dontaion and for your help.
Now for the good part. The Police Car/Show Car I have donated to the Police Department is a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro RS. The Camaro is Charcoal gray with T-tops, 5-speed transmission, 5.0 liter fuel injected, Amrican Racing wheels, low profile Kumho 225/40 X 17 inch tires all the way around, Flow Master dual exhaust with 3 inch pipes, ceramic coated headers, MSD ingnition, K&N air filter, blue neon light kit under the car, and a Pioneer sound system with a KICKER KX150.2 amp, and bass box. The car is striped and lettered in black and the rear license plate reads UMR-ROKS. The Camaro is a fully functioning Police car equiped with lights, siren, and police radios.
Look for the Camaro around the Campus, and wave me over if you want to take a closer look at it. I work the 3 pm to 11 pm shift Monday through Saturday. I would like to attend your next Presidents Meeting in January and tell you more about the Camaro and let you see it if you haven't had the chance to by then. If you would be enterested in learning more about our project and want to come on board as a sponsor you don't have to wait untill your Prsidents Meeting. You can email me at wallsr@umr.edu and I will be more than happy to bring the Camaro by your House and meet with your group. Plus we are going to use the Camaro for all types of special events and fund raisers around the Campus. So if you have an event coming up and would like to use the University Police Car/Show Car to help you out contact me and we will see what we can arrange.
Thanks, Officer Rick Walls University of Missouri Rolla University Police wallsr@umr.edu 341-4300

Hell yea third gen. And hey, I have a 305... if you do a few upgrades here and there, they'll move. If you're willing to spend $2000-$2500, you can get 420-450HP out of them (naturally aspirated, at the wheels... take out the running gear upgrades and pay just over $1000). According to the description, that Camaro likely pulls over 300HP, considering a stock fuel-injected 305 from the late 80's did 220-240HP (normal/HO). (Mine, unfortunately, is carbureted, and stock it barely broke a nasty 150HP... what a waste of 8 cylinders). Would have been better if it were a Firebird, though

I actually went to the UMR PD and talked with Officer Walls for about 45 minutes today. He's a cool guy and the car is damn sweet. Very nice paintjob with black stripes that have UMR POLICE out of them. Sounds really nice, too. It was donated to the PD by some used car place and Farmer's insurance (originally, the PD would have had to pay ~$3000, which is not bad considering the car's condition).
And about the nitrous, Officer Walls says that they do plan to put nitrous on the car soon.
