So today I noticed quite a few people wearing "everyminer.com" t-shirts. Then I saw a few flyers in the CS building that said "everyminer.com". Then I went to grab lunch, and there were people handing out cards that said "everyminer.com". By this point, I figured I'd check it out.
And oh, how I wish I hadn't. It's a pro-god site that is basically a form copy from "everystudent.com" (even copyrighted by them). I was reading their "Six straight-forward reasons why it's reasonable to conclude that God exists", and wow... the reasons aren't logical. The first three are your typical anti-evolution/intelligent design arguments, but the last three are kind of... dumb.

No way! To state with certainty that the earth was round, a person had to ignore the passion of an enormously vast number of people who are convinced that the earth was flat. But wait! The earth is round! And whose passion did Galileo have to ignore when he said that the earth wasn't the center of the universe? Oh yeah...
Quote:
5. We know God exists because he pursues us. He is constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to him. 6. Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God pursuing us.
Really, how do these make it reasonable to conclude that there is a god?
I find shit like that sickening. We're college students we don't need religion shoved down our throats like children. If someone wants to go with a certain religion it's their own damn choice. Countless people have lost their lives in the name of god (or someone else's god) since the beginning of humankind. I believe blind promotion of someone's religion onto a group of people is a irresponsible and possibly dangerous thing. But pay no attention to what I say, my opinions are discredited because of my name instead of the content of my observations.

the fact that the site's name is "every miner" implies that they want every UMR student to believe what thay believe. That's not religion, that's a cult.
They can take their cult and shove it. If I wanted this crap forced on me at college, I would've gone to bob jones university.

don't pay attention to heretic, he's obviously going to hell. What a jackass.

The word "bi-partisan" usually means some larger-than-usual deception is being carried out.
The site is developed by a movement of students at Rolla, called Campus Crusade for Christ. Our heart is to talk about the real issues facing us on the college campus and cut through the fluff of everyday life. There are other branches of CCC at campuses around the U.S. and the world. If you are interested in seeing a specific list of the theological beliefs of Campus Crusade for Christ, feel free to email us.
This is where I have a problem with what I see as the new American society...
If you oppose certain groups say the Christan right you are obviously a bad person who should be should removed from government...
If you oppose the war in Iraq and "our troops" being there, your obviously Un-American and possible even a terrorist...

While I think the site is retarded, I don't mind them putting it up. Now the distributing fliers may have been a little far, but, as a Christian myself, we are supposed to evangelize. However, St. Francis of Assisi put it well: "Preach always, use words if necessary." Many times religious organizations just go off the deep end into cheesy/over-the-top-beat-God-into-you productions, I think this may just be another one. If someone wants to talk to me about religion, I'm happy to; and I don't hide the fact that I am religious, but I don't try to beat it into people's heads. If you don't want the flier, don't take it. Just like the DaVinci Society chalkings are annoying but tolerated, so should this be.
