YAY!¡! I'm cool.. or something :P .. ooh, maybe he was talk about someone else

I pulled this off a design listserve that I'm on. Oh and that square green thing, is a piece of dark magic none only as "the floppy". It sounds scary I know, but believe it or not, some still practice this kind of magic along with devices such as osciliscopes (sp) and out dated digital cameras.

This is from the days when cassette tapes were all the rage!

Woo magnetic storage! Anyone else mildly amused that it is still one of the longest lasting and most reliable forms of archiving still available? (assuming you keep the magnets away)

I'm surprised my 8-track still sounds as good as it does. Hooray for old shite.

well - it is brutally efficient when it comes to massive long term, yet fast and reliable storage. hitachi has long term plans to thermally assist writing and reading of magnetic storage to make smaller and weaker bits that require a laser's heat to become read/writeable

My dad works for IT down at SEMO and they recently bought a new machine for backups that uses 800 GB tapes.
