I need some help, I just got an email from IT saying that email forwarding will end on November 15th. I would like to continue using Gmail as my primary email client. How can I set this up so that all of my email will be forwarded to Gmail, preferably without using Outlook.

In GMail settings there is actually an option that will fetch mail from a pop server. Apparently Gmail has some ninja skills, because when I typed in my email adress it loaded up minermail's settings.

Its under settings->accounts

That's what I've been using for the past several months and it works perfectly.

You can setup an rule in Outlook to forward all mail to gmail. Once it is setup you don't have to mess with it again.

the only bad thing about the gmail pop fetching is that it only does it ~once an hour - instead of every time you log into gmail. this can be kind of annoying if at 7:40 you leave for an 8:00 class only to have the email the professor sent at 7:10 come at 8:00 (once you've left).

on snowy days in particular - be sure to just use minermail (even though its hella gay)

If you do that, all those e-mails will still gather in your Exchange mailbox so you'll have to empty it every now and then so you don't run out of space

No, it fetches emails every few minutes. I usually hit 'Inbox' and it'll refresh, or you can manually click on 'Settings' then 'Accounts' to see when it was last fetched. From there, you can 'Check mail now' as well.

Here's what my history looks like:

Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 7:01 PM 2 mails fetched.
Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 6:58 PM No mails fetched.
Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 6:56 PM No mails fetched.
Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 6:53 PM No mails fetched.
Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 6:51 PM 2 mails fetched.

Only 2-3 minutes apart.

I think it fetches more often if you have gmail open. Also, you can set it to delete mail from your inbox after it is fetched, so your minermail box won't overflow.

Perhaps. I always have Gmail open in one tab, Y! Mail in another, then everything else.

Not any more. You can set a rule that will delete the item. Yes I know that it will just send it to the deleted items folder and will not permanently delete it as a server action. But didn't I see an e-mail from IT saying they will be enabling mailbox maintenance? They are going to delete all old items from the deleted items folder.
