He looked like a super villain with that slicked back hair and the black trench coat.

Unfortunately, the effects of the 'Rick Roll' were kinda muted because no one else got in on it, so it came off as weird and creepy.

Plus his performance sounded like a karaoke version, he wasn't willing to go all the way with his voice like Rick did in the original video.

This is sad because I know that Manilow is a decent performer, but it is typical of almost all his performances that he never challenges his vocal work with dramatic or emotional inflection.
