Where: CS209a When: 7:00pm Why: Mini golf in the CS building and the unveiling of our very own Arcade cabinet
Also, please post in this thread what games you would really like to see on the cab. We hope to have many (legal) games but let us know what you would like to see.

That is because we haven't put the bezel around the screen yet. Also, compsci's suck with wood working as it turns out. You were more than welcome to come help us build it at our meetings.

Well since someone else bumped this I guess I will mention how the cab is coming along. We switched to a new launcher interface that allows much quicker ways to scroll through the list (Which is now 3000+ roms long), set favorites, and search with an on screen keyboard. We also mapped a key combo to the P1 and P2 coin button so games without free play can still be enjoyed.
There are just a few more panel pieces to be painted and put on so no-one can steal any of the parts. We also have to come up with a way to adjust volume and then the cab should debut in CS213 early next semester.

Very cool. Did ACM ever use/throw out the soda machine that we were going to automate?
Every year someone claims they are going to finish it but nothing gets done. It is however still taking up a massive amount of space in our tiny ACM office.

That thing was in there when I showed up in 99. At the time I think all that we were lacking was some EE/CmpE to put together some relays that could be activated via a serial connection.
There was never a really big push to finish it. Of course, I think we had an SGI Indy or a Spark 10 in there at the time. We should have tried to con some Prof into assigning the relays as a class assignment. The software is the easy part.
The ancients would have been displeased had someone moved it.

I suspect this isn't because of a lack of ECE expertise in the ranks. Instead, I'm guessing it's a result of the mechanics of the task, and the end result, not being very interesting.
SACM @ Wisconsin has one up and running. It isn't used much because you can't walk up to it and buy soda box credit with cash/coinage. Instead, you need ask an admin for a login on the soda box. Then, once you have an account, you still rely on a human to credit it (though PayPal helps ameliorate this).
Time could be better spent elsewhere, IMHO.

FWIW, the ECE Senior Design series (391/392) is a cop-out, so with a little social engineering one could farm this out to a group enrolled in it.

If I am not mistaken we originally wanted to have some sort of credit system using student ID's, however it is illegal, or against some usage policy to have a device that reads the mag strips on those cards without the approval of the company who makes the cards. I forget the details, but it was some lame legal hookup that involved the ID cards and also the fact that we would be stealing business from the vending machine owners.
Basically there are a few minor hurdles that would need to be figured out and thus everyone is just being lazy and not getting anything done.
