Just curious as to what is the best way to Socialize at UMR? I live off campus and I am fairly shy so I kinda stay out of the loop with everything. It was a rather boring couple semesters last year.
The #1 way to socialize, meet people, and have an awesome time in collage is get in evolved with campus. YOU have opportunities at UMR that you may never have again in your whole life. Join some clubs, organizations, etc.
If you want to meet people that you will intently relate to check out your majors professional society. Most will be having a welcome back social thing in the ups coming weeks.
If you want to meet people that live to party, drink, and are usualy good study partners check out Greek life.
If you like music and want to meet some of the coolest cats in Rolla check out KMNR the student run radio station. KMNR been part of some of the best concerts in Rolla memory.
If you want to be involved with campus wide events on a weekly basis check out SUB.
If you are into God, check out CCF, or on of the other church related organizations.
If you are somewhat reluctant to wash your self and like watching TV, anime club may accept you with open… ok keep the arms down.
If by socialize you mean meet girls, well, if your in to the whole Catholic school girl thing newman has you covered, and Spanish club is full of Latin babes.
And always St. Pats, and GDI are around.
Basically, Rolla has many very fun student organizations that you should not miss out on.

Lol, I agree Hitman. I suggest talking to people that you sit around in class. Or go to one of the events on campus, like movies or whatever. Isn't that hard to meet people actually.
Now, if yer trying to find a girlfriend, well, go to Columbia

I'll agree with that. I've dated a few Rolla women, but man...they have all had serious issues. I still suggest going to parties. Get to know the people on your floor. Like round people up to go to lunch and dinner. The two years I was in the dorms I can count on one hand the number of meals that my floor didn't go to together...man those were good times too.

Well, you gotta think. You dun come here to Hell on Earth for a social life. Sure, you might accidently find someone, but chances of that are slim -and- none. Gotta figure that any woman who comes to Rolla is serious, and might not like for stuff to get in the way of studies. Then again, you might find a few that let everything get in the way (mostly first semester freshmen). Can't remember how many girls I knew my first semester that dropped. Is actually kinda funny.

That does not mean that they are not socializing. While many people in Rolla may be both quite and desperate when it comes to the opposite sex, I don’t think that is because it is difficult to find people to be around.
I feel sorry for you if you really think you can find a social life in Rolla. In Rolla I was rarely with out many friends, one or two lovers, and of course internet games. It is much more difficult in a large busy community to make good friends.
Although I admit that Rolla is not overflowing with draw dropping babes.
Join theatre. They have the highest concentration of really wacky yet cool people of any extracurricular I've found here. There's a meeting the 23rd at 7 in Castlemen.
