Quote:
"SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)-The government wants to know what people
have been Googling for. It's subpoenaed Google for details on what
users have tried to find through its search engine. The Bush
administration says it only wants to find out how often people look
for porn, as it tries to revive an anti-porn law. Google has
promised to protect personal information, but it also says it
complies with legal and government requests."

What kind of bullshit is this?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! Why should the government, for one, be subpoening a private company accused of no wrongdoing, but even more so making an anti-porn law? How is that even remotely constitutional?!??!?

I think it's kind of obvious that Bush really doesn't have much regard for "constitutionality".

The word "bi-partisan" usually means some larger-than-usual deception is being carried out.

and NPR just confirmed it; google said it would fight the subpoena, appaerntly its for a random assortment of sites and all the searches for one week. they want to make the anti-porn law for "child protection." thats what parents are for, not the government. we dont need to be babysat.

maybe it sounds too similar to boob, so the FCC wouldnt let him say it.

you might be able to say Boob on air. You can't say tits, so you couldn't say nipples, but you might be able to say boob.

Also, what good would a anti-porn law do? As far as i understand, it would only affect those servers based in the US. So all someone would have to do is move their little server box to some shithole in Singapore (home of child porn/prostitutes), and they're covered.

If I was Google, I would go back and delete all the records, just so they couldn't have them.

They can't subpenoa the records unless a judge issues a warrant because there is probable cause a crime was committed. As someone has already pointed out, shrub doesn't have much concern for the constitution, not unlike Klinton (who, if you remember, ordered 1000x more illegal wiretaps than Bush has, but it wasn't a big deal back then because all the news media loved Clinton. Not that it's okay if Bush does it, it's just that nobody seemed to care when it was Clinton...)

Anyway, yes, it's stupid.

The real problem is that El Shrubo seems to want to use random subpoenas of search engines as a "legal" form of wiretapping (but he already said that was legal too.) Isn't that called phishing?
