Looks like he tried every available option first, and went out of his way to prevent injuries. I think this guy is a hero! I am sure there are those who will disagree... but can you give a good reason as to why he's not a hero?

because he went on a fucking rampage and destroyed 13 buildings, including city hall, causing over $100000 in damage in his homemade, red-neck, psychopath, death machine.
then he committed suicide, which is considered a slight against god by most people.

Most people aren't that intelligent.. Bush did get re-elected. But anyways, I'm pretty sure no one asked Marvin about his religious beliefs when he was driving the Killdozer through the neighboring cement plant.
I say good for him. At the very least we know a little bit about what was going on in the small town of Granby, which I think is what he was going for.
even if he took care not to hit people, he could have killed someone after he ran through structural supports of a building. he got lucky that no one was hurt. would he still be your hero if you were the one who had to tell a wife that her husband was killed in a building colapse?
Even so, people are probably out of work because of this idiot. Now that there is no factory, some poor guy isnt going to be able to pay the mortgage on his house and now he's going to lose his house. Yeah, real hero of the little man.
If you really think he was awesome because he committed suicide because he lost his business, thats retarded. Shit happens, you catch some hard luck. Boo fucking hoo, you have to move and find a new job. Get over it. Thats no reasonto build a tank and destroy some buildings before you kill yourself.
He was obviously talented if he made an impenitrable mobile fortress. He could have gotten a new job and moved on.

Oh, please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
Or maybe his head wasn't screwed on just right.
But I think that the best reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
Quote:
Although a number of rumors reported that Heemeyer was terminally ill at the time of his rampage, an autopsy revealed that he was in good health other than an abnormally large heart
And what happened then?
Well, in Colorado they say that Marvin's small heart grew three sizes that day.
And then the true meaning of Zoning came through,
and Marvin found the strength of ten welders plus two.

People have an obligation to protest laws that they find unjust. At the very least, the city's attitude of "You must have sewer service or you face fines, we will allow this concrete plant to block your sewer access, and the plant is not obligated to allow you access to the sewer" is fuckin' ridiculous. The soap box failed. The ballot box failed (I assume). The jury box was unavailable. That leaves one last box.
You want to avoid this shit? Don't pass dumb laws. And most (all?) laws passed today are dumb.

Other articles state that he avoided critical building structural supports until people had a chance to be evacuated. That is what was meant by "going out of his way to avoid hurting people."
Yes, people lost their jobs. But lots of people lost their homes.
The point is that the city government was corrupt - the mayor and city council basically donated other peoples land to a private business for private gain. That is theft under color of law - and since the city government (and, by implication, the local police) were owned by this business, he had no legal recourse (though he tried anyway). Both the city government and the concrete company severely abused this man, severely abused the authority of government, and severely abused the law. The buildings that were destroyed were carefully calculated to do damage to the concrete company and to the city government that had done so much wrong. My only problem with it is that he didn't bulldoze the mayor's private home, and that he killed himself afterwards.
If he had not killed himself afterwards, I'm sure there would be lots of people donating to his legal defense fund, myself included.
You think that the dollar amount of damage that he did is excessive? I think it wasn't enough. Not until the company is out of business, the mayor is homeless, and the owners of the company are in bankruptcy. Not until insurance companies refuse to insure anyone who abuses eminent domain.
I think he's a hero. There need to be more people like him (minus the suicide, of course) in America - maybe then we'd see a government that isn't quite so likely to abuse people like that.

You're right, I think. It's a very similar situation though, the local .gov using its authority to force people out of their homes for the benefit of a private business. Doesn't matter what it's called.
