I'm having some trouble with my CPU. I think it's 400 watt, which shouldn't be a problem. When playing a game, my monitor sometimes goes blank and says "no signal". Upon restarting it says that the CPU temperature is too high. The CPU fan is working fine, the inside of the computer is not warm at all, and the CPU itself doesn't feel too hot either. Any ideas of what is wrong or how to fix it? Thanks.
It will cool down quickly when it's not running. When you're playing a game, that's when it's running at higher speeds. Try running a temperature monitoring program while you play your game, and see what it does. If it goes up high, try taking the heatsink off, cleaning the cpu, and then reapplying the thermal grease.

I ran a processor sans heatsink once. Silly me, I touched it shortly after turning it on and burned a nice square into my finger.

Radioshack has some good thermal grease. Apply a thin film over the processor and the heatsink where it contacts the processor. Make sure that before this, you clean both surfaces carefully. Isopropal(rubbing) Alcahol makes a good inert cleaner for the surfaces. Use that and a q-tip to clean it. Also, make sure you get the heatsink on straight or it will burn up your processor. Make sure that you are extremely careful to install it correctly. Also make sure its not got alot of dust on it too. Make sure the fan is running properly also.
