Im pretty much a noob with network setups beyond one router so ill explain the setup and the equipment and just help me organize to set it up the best way possible

Equipment:
linksys wrt54g router (4 ports and internet port)
linksys befsr41 router (4 ports uplink and Wan port)
baystack 24-T switch (23 working ports)

What I need to connect
3 computers upstairs
1 computer and 3 consoles downstairs (maybe more)

currently we have the modem and wireless router connected upstairs with one cable running down stairs to our media box.

I guess the simplest way I was thinking was if there was someway to use the one cable already downstairs with the wired router to act as a hub for the media box, 2 xbox's and xbox 360.

Id like to get the switch put in somewhere since we would get better speeds but not exactly sure how to organize everything

im not totally sure if i get what youre saying but you should just be able to use one of the routers with the switch on it (i have a wrt54g it has a 4 port switch on it) with the cable dropping from downstairs and it is essentially a "smart hub" by concept. does that help?

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you plug in to the uplink port on the router from a regular port on the wireless router you can plug in 4 devices in.

yeah thats two but it will make the other four switch ports on their on network with the router itself being the... well the routing link so unless you only want to be able to talk with on device (set up DMZ) from the outside going in dont do it but if you just want them to have internet connection and connection to sources past the router its fine... i would suggest just using the switch and the 3 other ports for devices... if you need more get another switch and cascade.

yea we got it goin now

we still got the wireless upstairs, then the ethernet cable goin downstairs into the uplink port of the wired router, off that we have the 2 xbox's, media bitch box (former legocomputer(well its still made of legos but not on campus net)), and xbox 360. If we need more stuff connected up here, we can just add in the 24 port switch for expansion
