Over the past week, my download speed has been ranging anywhere from 65kb/s to 300 kb/s (we're on the 3mb/s connection). I called them and they escalated the problem. When the techs call me, I'll ask them what's going on everywhere.
So apparently fidelity started caring about what you do with your internet. I got a phone call today saying I would get my internet back when I uninstalled my file transfer software. WTF!? Why did they start caring now?

Whoa...I gotta know, what software were you running? I've never had them say anything to me...
yeah, and I download a LOT!!! Around 30-50 gigs a day, no joke.
What were you using? I was actually expecting to get an email about my downloading being excessive back in June, but it never came and still hasn't. It's been so long that I highly doubt I'll get anything. It's probably not a problem for them since it's all coming from one IP instead of thousands of different ones.
A side note... Charter is upgrading their cable services up to 10MB connections in the next couple months. With them being so close we may see a similar change with Fidnet in the next year or so to compete with their other areas (Sulivan...ect)

How much will that cost though? Fidelity is a lot more than Charter, and I wouldn't exactly consider Charter too cheap either.
No, but increasing the highest tier changes the pricing for their internet. Just like Fidnet's increase last year. It's just simple competition and market response.
I read an article a while back that said that internet bandwidth is increasing like crazy in some parts of the country because of competition. I'd love to be paying 70 bucks for a internet connection with 2MB upload and something like 25MB download. We'll never see speeds like that in Rolla until competition forces FIDNET do do things like that. I'm glad that EMBARQ is in town with better prices.
I've been using µtorrent on the default port since June with Fidelity and they suddenly got all pissy.
Your Neighbors probably got pissy with them and they went after the 3 people in that area who were using the most. My internet has been a little spotty but overall I'm satisfied with it.
I've got the embaq DSL with 3m down and 512 up, and with a static ip i only pay $30 a month, but i had a lot of trouble with it, it would drop connection constantly I must have had a tech out 5 times, they ran a new cable from the switch to my house and that seemed to stabiliae it, but it still drops occasionally. I went with embarq bc of the price though- much better prices than fidelity
