I figured out how to convert to binary and hex on this thing, how do I go about converting to octal? It's not in the menu...and it seems Dr. Flachsbart is the only one who gives a shit about octal these days. thanks

I don't know about a ti-89 (I'm pretty sure they can do it natively), but it's pretty simple.

binary -> octal
break your binary string up into groups of 3, convert those to octal digits

octal -> binary
replace each octal digit with a group of 3 binary digits

I'm assuming once it is in binary you know what to do with it. If you really can't stand it, you could probably write a quick program to do it for you, or find one of the thousands that are probably already out there at a site like http://www.ticalc.org.

or... since ur just doing this to check your answers.. open up windows calc.. set it to scientific... make sure the correct standard is selected, bin, dec, oct, or hex... type in the number you want converted.. then select the one you want it to be in.. and wolla..

Of course I am, I would NEVER plan on using my calculator to convert these on a test or quiz. :lol:

i serously doubt hell let you use a calc on a test or quiz.. you should be able to do the conversions in your head or by hand... if nothing else he might allow a basic calc.. but with the storage capabilities and functionality of a graphing calc... i doubt theyll be usable..

We weren't allowed calculators in CompE 111. We did however get what he called the octal boat chart.
