I'm considering implementing a project using Ruby instead of PHP. Anyone here have Ruby experience/stories? I have some concerns about performance: frequent hammering on a MySQL database and a fair amount of string manipulation will be involved.

I've heard wonderful things about Ruby on Rails, but nothing about the performance. Ruby is supposedly really easy to use, so you should go for it mang.
