I want to use Evolution with the UMR Exchange server, but I can't figure out the right settings to use to get it to work.

I'm stuck at the first screen where it asks for Username and OWA URL (online web access). I've typed in my username and http://minermail.umr.edu (also, outlook.umr...) and it says it could not connect after it asks for my password. I've tried putting UMR-USERS/jmer43 for the username as well and that doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Just use IMAP instead

I think with outlook you had to specify encrypt credentials or something similiar

Yep, you need https://minermail.umr.edu

Thanks, will try when I get back to my desktop.

On the IMAP suggestion, I've been using it, but Evolution has to update the folders and I can't access my calendar with it (AFAIK). It works, but Exchange is nicer.

Actually, the OWA URL is mostly defined online as being the directory that shows up once you log in to web access, which here, and in most examples I've seen, is https://minermail.umr.edu/exchange/

However, that has not worked for me either, and I was just getting on here to ask this very same question before I sent a ticket to IT for help. I'm pretty sure it's not a credentials problem, as I've tried every combination of with and without a secure server url, with and without the UMR-USERS in front of my username, etc, all without any success.

And yes, while IMAP works, Exchange is much nicer to use on campus, and offers many features IMAP lacks, even in Evolution. You're right, there's no calendar over IMAP, that's an exchange only feature, and I believe the directory is also Exchange only, although I'm not sure if it works with Evolution.

If no one here has any ideas that work, I'm just going to pester IT and I'll post anything here that works for me.

I just set my Evolution up with Exchange using https://minermail.umr.edu (same as webmail.umr and outlook.umr fyi). I used just my username w/out the UMR-USERS tag.

My new issue is what's the Global Address List / Active Directory URL that I need to get the contacts from the directory to load. I'd rather not use LDAP and just pull everything from exchange.

That just worked for you? Because when I do that I still get a "Error: Could not connect to server, check URL and try again" message. Maybe I'm using an old version or something. That was on the form that said Server Type: and that was set to Exchange, and then your username, and then you used that in the OWA URL box?

Also, just to clear things up, you're using the windows version? I have 2.6.2-5 installed.

I'm using 2.8.1 from Ubuntu Edgy Eft. Maybe try upgrading Evolution as well as the Exchange plugin. Or just use Outlook on Windows, it's one of the few MS progs that actually is pretty good.

I am currently using Outlook, as the campus provides it for free, but I was going to try to get something going on a Linux box, and didn't have one to test with at the moment. So I just tried to use the Windows version. Unfortunately, 2.6.2-5 is the latest installer version available for Windows. I could try to build it from source myself though, or possibly just get the updated binaries and install them...
