So windows is corrupt on my friend's lap. I haven't ever actually seen a laptop harddrive, I would assume they use the same IDE or SATA standards as traditional drives, but on a different form factor. Is this correct? Does anyone have an adapter for IDE so that I can help get these files off?

Thanks.

SATA is the same on both laptops and desktops. If it's IDE, though, you will need a converter.

Radio Shack has USB 2.0 Enclosures for 2.5" hard disks for $9.99. I picked one up today as a matter of fact for a similar reason.
