Maybe somebody's got some ideas here.
I just installed a GA-7VT600 motherboard. It was working great (had XP installed, a few bugs to fix, but got them solved; two HDDs, two DVDs, Athlon XP 2500+, all pci/agp cards working great), but then I installed a 4in1 driver pack from Gigabyte's website, and forgot to restart before a guy came over and we tried a Athlon XP 2800+ in it, but the proc gave me the same problems that it did him so we just determined that the proc was bad. So I put the 2500 back in, and wahoo, AP won't boot. I can get past post every time, but then when the boot menu comes up, it doesn't matter what I pick (safe mode, last good, normal, etc.), none will load.
So, I try the XP install CD...hangs after loading drivers. Ubuntu 7.10...hangs after I pick what I want to load (normal and safe graphics don't work). Even my MS-DOS boot disk takes about 45 sec to load.
Now, all HDDs, pci cards, and non vital cables are disconnected and it seems to have made no difference.
I've updated the BIOS (v6 to v15) and no change.
I'm honestly not sure what to try next. The funny thing is that Memtest86 loaded and ran fine and gave my ram a PASS. I'm going to try to load Kate OS live CD and see if that works, but even if it does, I'm not sure what to do to fix it.
I've read that it might be that some capacitors have blown, but I hope not.
Any ideas?

Well, I couldn't find anything wrong with the capacitors. Nor any other hints online. Though through messing with it and testing everything that I could. I believe that when I tried putting in the 2800+ that turned out to be dead (well, mostly and I think that's what caused this whole thing) with one stick of DDR2100 along side two sticks of DDR3200, something didn't mix right and the FSB was damaged. That's the only thing that I can come up with from what I've seen with this thing. It's all right for small loads (eh, mostly), but for any significant load, it hangs like it just can't handle it.
In any case, I had to give up on it so if anyone wants to destroy a motherboard, it's sitting in the 6 south lounge in the corner. Have fun. Now, I'm looking at other Socket A's on ebay since there don't seem to be any more around here lately. Thanks for trying though.
peace
