Im trying to set up a hard drive that is shared, but only on my house network, and is also password protected so that we can share pictures and other important documents. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Step by step would be great.

Set a firewall to only block connections outside your subnet to ports 135-139 and 445 (or conversely only allow your subnet access to 135-139 and 445). Then create the password'ed share.

If you use windows firewall, on w/ exceptions, you can go to advanced and under the File and Printer Sharing section, you'll see a list of ports. You can change the 'scope' to only your subnet.
