Just read all about this in the paper and think it's a pretty handy little service. It works pretty well too, they have 3 tiers of service (free, $10, $25).
I gotta say that if you've ever known a girl who keeps getting harassed this is a godsend! You can get peoples numbers and names and the $25 tier actually records phone calls and emails them to you. How cool is that?
How it works is when you get one of these calls (blocked, restricted) you hit the end key. The caller still gets the ringing on his end, short pause and then your phone will ring with the listed number of who's calling.
Right now it's only AT&T and T-moble carriers but they say others will be following shortly.
The Free service gets you the Unmasking feature (see blocked numbers) and a blacklist unwanted callers service. Not bad for a free service.
From what I've read, they'll send you a text every time you have a missed call (cant turn it off yet in options) between text and connecting to the internet to upload phone conversations/voicemail. They're basically saying they aren't responsible for text/internet fees.
does this work for people who *(whatever the number is) to call privately?
I think that's the main point. I read elsewhere that it works by forwarding the call to a toll-free number. Phone systems are set up to not block caller id information for calls made to toll-free numbers, since the owner of the toll-free number is charged for those calls. Trapcall takes advantage of that fact.
