This is literally THE worst installation system I have ever encountered. It has countless 'pre-required system checks' but fails to even determine whether the software is previously installed. Then after you've successfully installed it, if you want the SQL Server Management Studio, you have to uninstall SQL Server to install the Management Studio, which includes SQL Server, but somehow SQL server's installer's file size is smaller than the package with Management Studio and SQL Server. WTF Microsoft. How are you going to downgrade so badly from 2005... /rant |

Why SQL Server Express 2008? Is there some requirement/feature that MSSQL has that you need (i.e. unexpected propigation delays? random table drops? etc etc?)? Unless if it's a Microsoft product, most other applications can use databases other than MSSQL. |

I'm now attempting to get express 2005 edition installed, as i figured out that the database only uses SQL 9.0, so it doesn't need 2008. |

Oh shit it's one of those places? >.< I've had to deal with people like that before. Good luck trying to explain to them the importance of servers/smart use. You have your work cut out for you. |

the only thing that eclipses the stupidity of MSSQL's installers thus far is this company's decision to use MSSQL. and possibly my own for taking this job |
