Been hit and miss since about noon today for me. Finally rebooted my router and modem (at different times) and pretty much figured out it wasn't either of their faults. Gave in 10 minutes ago and called fidnet's help line, automatically got the response "we are currently experiencing an outage in rolla...:

Yeah rolla needs another cable company or 2. I'm tired of the fidelity monopoly.

Actually, in Misery, it has to do with population density. Shit, now I can't find a link to the glorious bullshit. IIRC, something to do with only requiring 1 carrier per 1000 (or mebbe it's 100) residents of a given county.

Been years since I looked it up and right now I'm a few beers in to a really good night.

Is Embarq and Dish/DirecTV (if you want TV) not an option for you?

HiTechRedneck, I don't think that's it as St. Louis County has a few million residents and there's still only one cable company, Charter. There's also AT&T U-Verse, which is TV, phone and internet on a FTTN structure, so if you count that as a carrier, that's two per a few million residents.
