can anyone think of a reason why overnight i would lose my abillity to connect to the internet, but still have the ability to access web pages on UMR's local net? for instance, campus.umr.edu and seek?

this doesn't make sense to me. and so far no virus/DMCA/whatever email from UMR IT telling me if they shut it off for some reason.

hm interesting. during the writing of this post the process "LuComServer_2_5.EXE" just started............son of a BITCH

Check your email. You've had your internet access suspend for 24 hours. It happened to me too. All I was doing was downloading shit from seek. On campus bandwidth...and between 3 and 6 in the morning. WTF?!

well as far as i can tell my internet was shut off sometime after i went to bed and before i woke up which was about a 4 hour window. i had i2hub open and running but i don't think i was even downloading anything. since i can still get on UMR's shit i can still check my email and so far, nothing.

i checked out "LuComServer_2_5.EXE" and "AUPDATE.EXE", and both appear to be legit symantec live update/auto update applications (if someone could back me up on this i'd feel a little safer)

but damn it to hell if i have a virus

I told you...that's exactly what happened to me. Did you check your email?? I bet there's a message from Karl Lutzen.

you think if they'd shut off my internet they'd let me know sooner

(still not ruling it out though)

ok...well. That definately sounds like the exact same thing that happened to me. I got some email telling me how much I had downloaded and that my internet would be restored in 24 hours. If it was through bittorrent or something I could understand, but through the local network...and between 3-6 AM. Jesus! Oh well. You'll probably have it back tomorrow morning after 6:30 AM or so.

i got an email from karl luntz saying that the origional email had been sent out at 6:17 am, but for some reason i never recieved it. he said someone told hima bout it i'm assuming someone from the forums in which case, thanks for letting him know. and i'm pretty relieved it's campus related and not a freaking virus or something considering we just found one on our house's network recently.

yeah i think i must've left i2hub open overnight and although i wasn't downloading anything but probably .mp3s maybe i got hitup on some uploads. this has never happened to me before though, being offed for exceeding bandwidth!

I think if you set your max up/down limits, you should be safe. Is like, with me and BitComet. Will have the max set at 25kb/s down, 10kb/s up. I keep it low, and only try for one file at a time, and get no problems.

I do the same for my torrents...but their problem with me was from oncampus downloads. I don't have any way to limit that. Any suggestions?

Limit the amount you download and from how many people. There really isn't a way that I know to limit your speed on the network. Try not to download more than a gig at a time from a person.
