I'm not exactly the knowlegeble about computers but I just recently purchased a computer and well it said it had a 160 GB hardrive but when I go and look at the system info it only says I have 149 GB, so what happened to the other 11??? Also I got a P4 at 3.4 GHZ and it say it is at 3.39, whats up what it that? is it just some scheme to make their products look good?

It's the marketers' definition of gigabyte (GB) versus the computer scientists' definition of gigabyte.

The marketers' definition:
1,000 B (bytes) = 1 KB (kilobytes)
1,000 KB = 1 MB (megabyte)
1,000 MB = 1 GB

The computer scientists' definition (the real definition that your computer follows):
1,024 B = 1 KB
1,024 KB = 1 MB
1,024 MB = 1 GB

(1,000 ^ 3 ) / (1,024 ^ 3) ~= 93.13%.

As for the clock speeds:

3.4 GHz = 3,400 MHz.
3.39 GHz = 3,390 MHz.
(there are no strange definitions here, 1 GHz = 1,000 MHz whether you talk to a marketer or a computer scientist).

So it's between 5 MHz and 15 MHz (due to rounding) off of what it should be. It's not that big of a deal. You'd never notice the missing cycles.

160GB (a marketer's definition) * 93.13% = 149 GB.
