I'm looking for a basic box at leased AMD athlon or P3 class or greater and 256mb ram or more. Just going to throw Linux on it and maybe move all my shared files to it. Looking for something under $100 if possible.
you might even be able to get by with less than a p2 if you use a light weight distro
do you realy need the speed for a sever?
you even need a gui?
if you want a light weight gui use fluxbox or anything other than kde.

I will also be doing some coding on it so yes the speed will matter a bit but like i said it doesnt have to be that good. Still not sure which version of linux im going to put on it, I actually plan on trying a couple out
Who cares about my sig, and i agree with stussy i like seeing what other systems are out there so i put mine up, butthis has nothin to do with the topic i put up[/quote]
dude, youre an idiot. its not an ego thing. if it was, it would say something more like "mine is bigger than yours." and btw, i could care less what you think about my system. its common practice to put system specs in your sig on many forums especially for unique builds and oc's.
I know it isn't an ego thing - it started out as messing with a friend of mine who lives in the same building - I'm sorry if you were offended in any way.

I have a generic box with an Iwill DBD100 dual slot 1 mobo and two Pentium III @ 1 Ghz each. It currently runs Kubuntu Linux Edgy Eft. I was planning to sell just the mobo and procs on eBay, so if you need a complete working box we can talk about the details.
For the record, at home we have one of the original Sony Vaios (200 Mhz Pentium, 96 MB memory) set up as a network appliance using NASLite.
