Obviously I have 2 open rooms; rent is 400/mo for 9 months, or 300/mo for 12 months. That includes all utilities and cable. So that's 3600/yr vs a single dorm for 4800/yr. The house has lots of space and is two blocks from campus.

Well, think about it. I need to pay the rent on the house over the summer whether people are living there or not. So those that aren't living there during the summer need to cover the difference, myself included.

Shouldn't it be less for 9 months? Whats the point if its both the same amount in the end?

The mortgage company doesn't care if you take three months off in the summer--you've still gotta make the house payment. That's how the REAL WORLD works...
