I have a few things I think should be changed in Rolla: and no I'm not talking unreal things like make this some beachside babetown. I mean down to earth daily nuisances that should be fixed. I say we go out and take this town by storm and make all of our lives a little easier. Feel free to add to this list as you think of additional points... I know I will.
1. Stop light at Hwy 63 and Pine Street. I have been going through the newly constructed parking lot to illegaly skip this light and save at least 3 to 4 minutes every time. The other day i was sitting in line for about a minute, reversed down the street, went through the parking lot, waited on a few cars to get by and then turned onto 63... all while those poor bastards were still stuck at that fucking light.
Solution: put in a stop sign from Pine Street onto 63 and let 63 flow right past without stopping.
2. One way streets in Rolla. Seriously this town is way to small to need one way streets. Get rid of all of them.
3. Increase speed limit to 45 through town on 63 and keep it a 4 lane all the way past lowes. Seriously what kind of a moron bottlenecks a highway in the middle of a town... well the kind of fucking morons in charge of Rolla traffic.
4. Liquor stores open all the time including the removal of the 1am sunday liquor sale ban. Seriously screw this stupid ass law.
5. Get rid of all down town stop lights except 10th & Pine interesection. Put in stop signs.
6. Make fast food restaurants take credit/debit cards. Make walk-up windows for those of us not fit to drive up to a window at 2am on a saturday. Also make restarunts stay open 24hours.
7. Cut police force in half and use saved money to rehire them to make all of said changes and repairs. [as if parking ticket revenue for one month shouldn't already cover it]
8. Hire Officer Phillips and his "97lb dog" as a traveling entertainment act.
9. Get rid of the noisy ass worthless snow plows that plow sidewalks... I seem to recall trying to walk down an ice covered path devoid of snow earlier this semester thanks to the "Campus Zamboni Patrol"
10. Fire the idiot who designed the street layout for Rolla.
11. Fire the idiot who came up with the slogan "The middle of Everywhere"
12. Make the lowest speed limit allowed ANYWHERE in Rolla 35 mph.
13. Make alternate highspeed truck route around Rolla. Benefits: less danger to pedestrians getting annihalted bya truck screaming down 63; reduce wear and tear to roads in town--so it goes on the state highways bill; and allow truckers to get around rolla in less than 25 minutes, quite possibly the longest stretch of 4 miles their trip will consist of.
14. Best Buy?, Circuit City? Seriously we're the biggest town between St. Louis and Springfield and we have the "state's premier technological institution--taken from UMR Admissions handout" in a town 90 miles from the nearest serious electronics store? WTF
15. A respectable grocery store? Dierbergs, Schnucks? or I guess a Winn Dixie for those pop-saying KC people.
16. Make a 5 second rule at stoplights... if you aren't moving 5 seconds after it turns green it is considered an illegal parking violation and you will be ticket... most likily with joy by the remaining half of the police force.
hyvee? Winn Dixie? Price Choppers? Dierbergs? Schnucks? Never heard oh them. I'd shop at walmart before one of these weird places.
Agreed. We have a Price Cutter in Republic, but I've never even heard of those. And there sure as hell aren't any of them in Springfield either. Or at least there wasn't the last time I really drove around there.

Yes, that is true but I believe that much of that extra population is taken care of by the base... therefore doesn't fall within the arguments I'm making here. And even if it does, I'm interested in making Rolla a better place first... then we can work on Ft wood.
rolla has a lot of potential. there's a lot of flat land just wating for expansion but the cost is so freaking high. back home (ft wood/st robert) there were countless ideas of what to build. apparently we were suppose to get a home depot and olive garden. it's so hard to expand down there because it's so hilly and the price of land is outrageous.

Schnucks and Dierbergs are both pretty good stores. They both have better produce than walmart could ever dream of having. There's quite a few in the St. Louis area. Price Chopper has always sucked wherever I've seen one. Walmart may have low prices but they suck for fresh fruit and veggies...especially fruit.
