Hey Guys, Got me a new mobo, sitting in my case right now humming along happily. It's an MSI MS-6743G-LS and I've got my 2.3 Celeron in it, now running stably at 2.65 GHz (115FSB, 23 multiplier) with my case side off and stock cooling. I'm running about 1.5 volts through it now, only up from 1.475. I tried upping the FSB to 122 to hit the 2.806 mark, and it did fine for about half an hour, then the computer randomly restarted. My question is this: What the hell? CPU temps stayed well below 55*C under UT2004 conditions. Why can't I stay at 2.806Ghz? Does it have something to do with voltage? Is changing the FSB messing with PCI and RAM clocks, even though PCI clcok is physically set at 33 in BIOS? Thanx, jkpq45 EDIT: Since I updated the BIOS, my boot screen doesn't come up for windows, and I don't see the screen that allows me to press delete and enter BIOS. Also, I can't boot to the rescue disk I made. The first thing that shows up is WINXP logon screen. Any ideas? |

yes, increase your voltage use Prime95 on Blend torture test to test your settngs. If it crashes, you aren't stable and need to either step it off a notch, or increase voltages. Choose your poison. |

changing you fsb isn't necessiarly the way to go to go because if you don't have a pci lock then you agp, sound card, hard drives and everything will be overclocked also. I just go with raising the mulitliper and i've got a 2100@2800 with 166fsb. Raising voltages will help some but not alot maybe just an extra 100mhz. Raising Ram voltage usually doesn't do anything unless you are using really cheap ram most good ram will oc at the the lower voltages just fine. I would suggest if you don't have good cooling on your northbridge get a larger heatsink with a fan for that or lap the the northbridge and the heatsink you have on it now. Watercooling is great i have an koolance system on mine right now. The koolance was great for starting out and i like the features its got with fan speed and autoshut off controls. But if i was gonna do it again i would build my own system and use mixed parts mostly danger den parts. If you are serious about building a water system i could help you out probably on a weekend or something i've got a watercooling unit much like and exos that we made out of tupperware and left over parts that i got when i RMA'ed my koolance system. The koolance RMA was due to they had some bad additive they sold for 2 months with their systems and algee would start to grow and i had read on forums if you had a system bougth within those 2 months you just had to send them pics of the algee and they would send you all new blocks and pumps and radiator. So i went to a fish tank shoved some algee in my blocks and took some pics and sure enough there were all new parts at my door a week later and they never asked for the old ones back. So i felt better about the 400 i spent the first time since i basically got 2 systems out of them. But if you want some help me and another of my friends have systems and you can come look at them and what we got i have the full on koolance case and he has an exos and i also have our tupperware thing we made in one weekend. |

He's got a celeron..no way he's going to get the multiplier unlocked. His only chance is to go via FSB. Depending on the motherboard, it may well lock the agp/pci. I don't know cause my last intel rig was a SiS645DX chipset w/ a 1.6a. I've gone AMD ever since. Back on track, since you are trying to OC a Celly and having these kinds of problems..I'm assuming you are new. It's true that upping the CPU's voltage will only increase your potential a little (no pun intended), but depending on your cooling, you can really jack the voltage up for big gains. |

-jkpq45 when the keyboard lights up hit the delete key to enter your bios. i never see my screen either, its just really fast and goes by it too quick or you could unplug your drives. |

Got the BIOS problem fixed, now I've gotta run my box over to IT to see why I can't get on the net (and my sound drivers are on the fritz again.... Damn.) Notice I'm posting from ME and not on my box at home. Grrr... Thx for the help, jkpq45 |

I've had two. One for using bit torrent over the summer (consuming my house's whole 10Mbit/s limit). One for an anonymous ftp two summers before that one. |
