if you like multiplayer games then live is essential and yes check for deals. When I bought BC2, it came with 3 months of xbox live for free but then for 12 more dollars I could get a year. Worth it.
True, but if anyone on here has some games they've grown tired of and would like to sell/trade, that'd be cool...I hate to give money to GameStop.
I'll do some searching on Live cards, thanks for the head's up with that.
And, yeah, the whole point of grabbin' an XBox is for the live gaming. I've a buddy who has a 6' (yeah, six foot) Mitsubishi TV and watching him play MW2 online really gave me the bug. Shitfire, it was like life-sized!

Check pawn shops for 360 games too. Especially in towns like Salem, St. James, and Sullivan where the college students are rare, gamer populations are really young, and the pawn owners are really old and don't really understand the value of the games.
It has worked out very well for me.

fw mod console and download games from usenet
fw mod is for little nublets
protip: have 2 360s, one for live, one jtag for homebrew
except, who wants to mess with 2 360's? also, most jtag units are launch units and 2nd generation. Most of these units will eventually fail to solder joint fractures, and most of the ones available online are old RROD boxes that have a half ass hack fix done to them.

yes it is so difficult turning on one box rather than another, and if the box fails no big deal. I also get to run homebrew, emulators, arcade games, and load retail games from the harddrive without risking my live account.

Congratulations, you turned a gaming console into an unexpandable computer with a shitty Macintosh PPC processor that will fail.
