Hey i downloaded it but how do i play the game. It messes up on my computer for some reason.

You have to drop your settings down to 8bit color and your resolution less than 800x600 or somesuch. At least thats what I did to make it work.

if you are running XP then sucks for you. you *MIGHT* be lucky if you are running ME at the latest and it will run. considering: this game was made to run on readily avalable computers when we were in the 6th grade. 98 or 98SE might be able to run it (because they are both pretty compatable with DOS) but XP i guarantee will fuck up.

which version is it, though? the pure DOS one or the "new" mac-ish version where you shot at deer and bison with the mouse?

because nothing compares to the origional -- using the arrows and spacebar to hunt..... and fording the river!!! you ALWAYS ford the river. if you don't you're a pussy

Well if it is the windows based version you can force winxp to run it under win95, win98, or any other special settings. Thats what I did when I relived those good old school days. And yes, oregon trail still kicks some ass (atleast when you boredom meter is off the chart).

i believe nothingbutsoftware.com had oregon trail 5 for a few dollars. if you cant get the original to work.
