For those of you who have seen my sig line, I doubt anyone knows what it means except some sort of Rougelike or a D&D-type game. Verily, it is. Nethack, http://www.nethack.org, is a fantasy rougelike, dungeon exploration, ascii- or tile- turn-based, addictive, and quite amazingly difficult game.
It has been ported to over a dozen OSes including UNIX, every MS-OS, Mac, and even Palm/CE devices.
I would like to know if anyone here has any experience with it, if there are folks around who play, and perhaps churn up a little interest in the game. It's quite easy to download and install, taking only about 8 or 12 MB. Unless you want to go and use the 3-D tile set expansions which can get you up over 100MB, but they add little to the gameplay. The other aspect to consider is that the game is constantly being updated, modified, etc., is completely open-source, and you may even be able to get in on the development of the game if you're talented. Definitely something for the coders among us to consider for practice, fun, boredom relief, etc.

Nethack and other ASCII adventures rule. I mostly stick to TOME or Vanillia Angband. Sometimes I play ZAngband or Nethack, but I seem to do the best with TOME and Vanilla.
A little local ASCII game trivia: Multiplayer Angband was made by a UMR student.
