Anyone else having any problems with steam right now? I can't connect. It says the master server could not be contacted to retrieve the server list. Not only that but last night the internet here got so bad our so called highspeed connection was dling at about 2.5kb/s max. What in the hell. If anyone else is having this problem let me know. I know another guy on my floor with the same problem. I think IT is blocking something, it worked fine two days ago. Hopefully this is just temporary.
same problem here, this sucks. if this is something IT is behind, thats bullshit. our internet connection sucks ass because they are lazy. I WANT TO PLAY CS:SOURCE!!!!!

Like was mentioned in the above post, all gaming appears to be down. I use the All seeing Eye to connect to games (supported games inlcude BFV, BF42, RTCW, Wolf ET, Medal of Honor AA and its expansions, Ghost Recon, CoD, RoN, and many other games that I don't have) and every server is 9999, which means ASE can't connect to it. I tried to use force connect, but it just ends up waiting for a connection. I've tried many games in-game browsers, in the hopes of an ASE failure. I have the same results. My only conclusion is IT shut down ports.

well all is good now. I wish i knew what the hell they were doing last night and this morning to screw things up. I should never have to deal with 2.5k/s download speeds if im paying for broadband.blah..
according to IT they blocked all UDP ports yesterday due to excessive peer 2 peer networking activity. Starting to piss me off.. can't wait till im out of here with some good 3mbit dsl or cable.....i paid 30 a month for 3mbit charter cable and was constantly getting 350kb/s+...we pay more per month and get so much less
Um... STEAM? I just put on some water to boil, and I'll get all I need. Computers don't need to be involved, and it definitely doesn't affect my internet connection.
Learn to spell.

I would insult you for some petty pathetic reason about not being around as long as I have, but as it turns out, you've been around longer. So armed with that new knowledge, I apologize.

Hahaha, now let's here all you bit torrent fanatics talk about how much of a "right" it is for you to whore the bandwidth 24/7. Maybe if people at this school would actually be curteous to others with their bandwidth usage instead of using all they can since it's their "right," the internet wouldn't blow so much. But that will never happen.

any word on when this stops, if it does? This block puts a stop to a lot of gaming fun that I otherwise could be having. There are going to be a whole bunch of pissed off students storming somebody's office soon if the ports aren't restored to normal.

Last year, the internet was not nearly as bad as it is this year. I blame liberals.

IT said they would unblock ports that are requested by students. So if your favorite game isn't working you need to email IT and tell them or they will not unblock the port.
we all need to go to that forum at Civil 125 monday jan 24. I'm sure you all got that email. Fact is we all pay a lot of money for this school and we deserve much more then we get. Fall 2002 when I got here, the avg dl speed was 200-400k/s. I hardly ever saw it jump lower. Now you're lucky to have 20k/s on a single thread. Granted you can use download clients and sometimes pull in 90-100, but give me a break.
