Krosswirz, a LAN organization in the northeastern Missouri area, is looking to expand its base of operations. The next logical step would be for them to set up shop in Columbia.
The LAN parties are once a month for a full two days, nonstop, with some cool prizes and free stuff from sponsors like ATI and Pepsi. The more people that come, the better the prizes: in the past there have been motherboards and etc given away.
Due to lack of humans in northeastern Missouri (or the overabundance of n00blets, take your pick) attendance right now is normally between 35-60.
Krosswirz is hoping to break 250 by coming further south to more populated areas.
If you would be willing to drive to Columbia for this sort of event, please let me know...no commitments, just if it sounds insteresting to you at all.
Also let me know if you would be interested in seeing them established in Rolla, although Columbia is probably first on the agenda before they reach that far from their home base.
Their website is pretty shitty and the webmaster can't spell to save his life, but if you want to see it it's at http://www.krosswirz.net. Feel free to visit the forum and ask questions or express any concerns or interests.
The more support the owners observe, the more likely they'll come south.
The best part is that all students get 50% off the entry fee with a student ID ------------------------------------
Now to contact "Red" and let him know if you're interested, just respond to the original post located here or pm me and I'll let him know.

I'm sorry to those I havent emailed back. I talked to Red and here's the final verdict:

"Concerning the question of admissions that some have had, without your student ID it's 20, but with it you get 50% off so it's only ten bucks for pretty much two days of straight gaming. Sleep is optional, and someone is always awake so you can game the whole time if you have the stamina for it
Also, it should be clear from my first post but in case it isn't, Krosswirz is not yet established in Columbia. Currently the LAN locations rotate between a few different cities.
Hannibal is the most common, and we go to Quincy, Pittsfield, and some other places as well. January's LAN was in Hannibal, February's LAN is in Quincy, I'm not sure where next month's will be.
If anyone would be willing to go to any of those places and not just Columbia, please let me know that as well. I know it's a bit far; I personally don't attend the LANs in Quincy.
You're welcome to observe the LANs for free, there's no charge for standing around watching for a while to see if you really want to play or not.
If you have any further questions please refer to the krosswirz.net website or just ask me.
The guidelines are listed on the site, but just for reference, there are a few general rules.
-There are little kids there, so try to keep from yelling out profanities or having up porn
-No drugs/anything illegal. We do use a lot of ripped CDs, but the owners wash their hands of that and don't support us doing so. That's just what we as attendees do.
-No on site assembly. Computers should be fully functional when you get there. Installation of network cards is the only allowed internal work, however if you need to install things or format or whatever, that's not a problem; it just detracts from your game time so you should try to be prepared.
Also know that the games listed on the front page of the site aren't really what we play the most. They're a bit outdated and I don't really know why they're still up. We do still play some of them though.
If you have a question on what you need to bring, really the bare minimum is yourself, your computer (with monitor, keyboard and mouse), and a surge protector is nice. Network cables are provided.
Hmm I can't think of anything else, let me know if you have a question or need to work out some sort of transportation. Apparently there are a few people at least that are interested in Rolla, so maybe you could work out a carpool and help each other remember your student IDs and gizmos and such, as well as save on gas money and have a more entertaining ride
Hope to see you there."

I know many of you do drive, but as a side note...if you do need a ride, as said, Red doesnt go to Quincy but I usually do so you can always let me know if you're wanting to go there.

There's a good reason to stay away right there. Not for the reason mentioned though. This past august, I went to QuakeCon down in Dallas. There were kiddies I swear hadn't hit puberty yet. Those kids are so fucking annoying because THEY are the ones standing up and shouting out profanities.
Now maybe this LAN thing here will be different, but I'd highly doubt it. I'm sure someone will report back to tell how it went.

Eh, it probably won't be that bad, but if you hear other people (like those annoying little kids) shouting it out, then follow suit, but try not to single yourself out.

The guy is never going to hit 250 people if he holds lan events every month unless somehow he manages to secure GOOD monthly prizes before the events and has that sort of information highly publicized. At least I seriously doubt it. I'd go if the prizes were good, but I'm guessing it's just posters and stuff.
