Um, what did he write? I've never heard of the guy.

Ooh! Ooh! I love games!

The answer is: Las Vegas. Oh, and America, and The Campaign Trail, and, I guess be more.

He's also famous for writing The Great Shark Hunt. Also, one of Johnny Depp's upcoming movies, The Rum Diaries, was also originally written by Hunter.

I'm a huge HST fan, and when my mom called me yesterday afternoon to tell me, it made my incredibly shitty day just that much worse.

He also wrote Fear and Loathing in Elko. It's quite excellent. Written in 1992 for Rolling Stone, it followed a bunch of crazy stuff that had happened to him. Easily found on this thing, the internet. Essay form, not a full book.

Actually, he also wrote "Fear and Loathing in the Kingdom of Sex," for Hugh Hefner for Playboy's 50th Anniversary Issue... Apparently they were really good friends.

One of my good friends is named James Hunter Thompson... and his parents "swear" that it had nothing to do with Hunter S. Thompson... although his dad has hinted at it... random fact... I'm done.

Wow, two things. He'd been planning to kill himself for over a decade, and his friends and family knew about it. Which is... interesting. Plus, he wanted his ashes shot out of a cannon in the shape of or mounted on top of a huge gonzo fist monument. Which is awesome, since I joke with people about the same thing, only my dead body instead of my ashes, and at a brick wall instead of the air.

There's also a CNN article on the cannon thing.
