Tyler, TX. Read the link http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=995922&tw=wn_wire_story but here's the short version.

Guy getting sued by ex-wife for non-payment of child support. Bad guy shows up at the court house with a semi-automatic rifle and kills the ex-wife and is shooting at his son. A civilian with a concealed carry permit starts shooting the bad guy with a .45 but the bullets don't penetrate the flak vest and bullet proof vest the bad guy is wearing. (That's why head shots are good things!). Bad guy wounds the CCW holder and then walks up and kills him. Cops start shooting at him and he drives off. He is then cornered, has a shoot-out with the cops and is then killed.

Moral of the story: More people carrying guns leads to a more polite society.

The son would have been dead had it not been for the CCW holder. Most news agencies will probably not mention that the man killed by the bad guy was a CCW holder who stepped in to try to stop him from killing more people.

How does this episode provide any evidence to your claim? 3 people are dead. Doesn't sound very polite to me. By wearing flak jacket, it seems like he was accounting for CCW people.

And just how do weapons make it into courtrooms? Maybe I'm out of the loop or something, but the only time I've ever been in a courthouse, we all had to go through metal detectors, even though it was a Saturday and "real" court wasn't in session (it was high school mock trial competition).

Actually, I see that it happened in That Damned State(TX). Nevermind. All makes sense now. Nothing to see here, move along.

(Note: I'm not a big gun control advocate, I just think that the pro-gun people repeatedly make bad arguments.)

He never made it into the courtroom. This happened outside in front of the court house.

If everyone, or at least more, carried guns, there would be much less chance of this happening. Even if he wore flak vests, if 2-3 people had been shooting him rather than just one, one of them most likely would have hit him in the head. Plus, he would have had to engaged more targets, all firing at him. As it was, he only had 1 target actively engaging him. Even with body armor on, most people don't want to get shot so they will normally seek some kind of cover and in doing so degrade their own ability to fire effectively.

Oh, and the anti-gun people make even worse arguments. Gun control doesn't work and it never will.

Here is the thing, are you more likely to mug someone if you think they have a gun on them, I know I sure as hell wouldn't be. Also you think there is a better chance of some shithead walking into a convenience(sp) store and holding it up, if half the patrons in the store have a side arm? I doubt it.

Also, what do you have against Texas? Incase you don't listen to country "God blessed Texas with his own hand..." I forget the name of the song

"God Blessed Texas" would indeed be the name.

More people would have been dead (the son for sure) if he hadn't been stopped by a CCW holder. He was probably armored up for the cops to keep his rampage going on. The CCW guy delayed him long enough for the cops to do something before he slaughtered dozens.

Name one. Just one. I don't think you can, you just repeat what you've been told, that pro-rights people use bad arguments.

Think about it. Would you try to kill somebody, or rob a bank for example, if you knew that any of the other people in the room at the time could have a pistol pointed at the back of your head in 3 seconds?

It doesn't take a crack shot, just some old lady in the right place at the right time. Doesn't matter who fires the bullet, you're still dead.

course what woulda happened had the ccw guy missed and hit some other inocent bystander?
even if you banned all guns in this nation, people would still kill others. sure they may have to stab them, poison them, run them over, or hell just hit them on the head really hard, but hey, they wouldn't shoot them right? and thats all that matters doesn't it?

moral of the story: get a bigger gun or shoot them in the head.

No, I actually think for myself. I think that pro gun control people make bad arguments too.

Here's a bad argument the gun rights people use: States with CCW have had lower crime rates than before they had CCW, therefore, CCW lowers crime. That's a textbook post hoc ergo propter hoc. Correlation doesn't necessarily mean causality. It's the first thing they teach you in statistics. What the gun rights people don't tell you is that the crime rate for the entire nation has dropped over a similar period of time and that the drop in CCW states hasn't been significantly more than the national drop.

Look, you're going after the wrong kind of person. My thoughts on gun control are basically that every gun sale should require a background check on the buyer to make sure s/he's not a loony and not a convicted felon. That's pretty much it. If people want to own assault rifles, I don't really have a problem with that. My internal jury is still out on CCW (though I despise what Missouri has done with it), but when people like you accuse me of just repeating Michael Moore-ese, you make me unsympathetic to your cause.

No, I don't completely agree, I seriously think you would have to be the most naive (at best) person on Earth to believe that outlawing guns is going to get rid of them (take a look at drugs). No, all outlawing guns would do is leave law abiding citizens defenseless against those who would kill, steal, and destroy.

And tho you are right zkissane, I also see places where they have outlawed many guns, and the crime has sky-rocketed. I know that it could be caused by other factors, but it could still be gun control. And like I said above when you outlaw those firearms, you just take them away from the law abiding citizens.

Also, it is our RIGHT to keep and bear arms. SO that is a reason I dare say that noone here can argue with.

And I haven't noticed it lately, but it is a pet peave of mine so I am going to go ahead and say it, a firearm is just that, it isn't a weapon until the operater makes it that. A gun never killed anyone...
