Will there be a war with China in our lifetime? Will it be because of Taiwan or what?

I was watching CNN debates over the summer and heard an interesting fact.

In modern history (onlything that relates) all countries who started buying excess steel and natural resources from the world market were building a strong military for conquest. I.E. Germany, Japan, Russia, Korea

guess who's been buying excess steel for years? Anyone know why gas prices really started rising?

China, and gas prices started rising after China doubled, then tripled it's oil consumption in only a couple years. Adding to the factors of gas price increases.

lol... time to invest money in companies who make claymores:)

Some generals in the Chinese army said that if the US gets between them and an invasion of Taiwan that they will use nuclear weapons on the US mainland. This is like the Cuban missile crisis all over again.

And if they do, bye bye China. They can hit some of our large cities, but if they do, we will obliterate theirs and their military. Once nuclear release is authorized, ALL the gloves come off. Strategic and tactical nuclear weapons will be used. So, all those large battle formations the Chinese have will now be hit by nuclear weapons rather than fighting them with M1's and crunchies.

The Chinese plan is to deny us the ability to reinforce Taiwan and get into the fight. We would do that the only way we can and that is by sea. The Pacific Fleet is very powerful and has multiple carrier battle groups (CBG). The Chinese have been doing some serious work on over the horizon targeting and building up surface to surface missle (SSM) technology and numbers. They now have a credible force in that department. Enough that they could seriously hamper if not stop our ability to get into the fight. Once they achieve air superiority over Taiwan, it would be a matter of time before they win.

China is also building up their amphibious warfare assets. Once they are where they feel they need to be to absorb some losses and still land a credible force on Taiwan, they will be ready. Oh, they're also building up their air force with technologically advanced aircraft. If anyone has ever wondered why we need the F-22, that's it. Our legacy fighters, ie F15, F16, F/A 18 can handle what they have now because it's based on 1970's and 80's technology. They won't be able to handle the newer generation of aircraft as well. That's where the F-22 comes in. The capabilities of that aircraft are far above anything anyone else has.

Back to the original observation of China's use of nuclear weapons. I hope they don't plan on using their SSBN's for that role. Those things are loud and attract lots of attention from our SSN's. We've probably got an SSN on each boomer they have. If something were to go down over there, they would be among the first to die.

No, No, No!

Does this seem insane to anyone else? Nuking all of China?

Or does it simply fall under this 'sage' mantra:
"Wars, conflict - it's all business. One murder makes a villain; millions, a hero. Numbers sanctify, my good fellow!"

If anyone else has seen that movie, kudos. It's a good one.

China won't nuke us as long as they can export all their stuff to us and buy up all out debt. Killing people that owe you money isn't a good business practice.

What if they nuke taiwan? they're definitely not going to nuke us directly.

Then we have a choice of nuking them.. if we do, then they have a right to nuke an american city.... so the wheel turns.

Also think of it this way... if we nuke everyone into the stone ages.. who's going to be better off? a country with billions of cheap exploitable labor, or a former tech country with arrogant ass holes who will always talk about how good we had it.

If that reset switch was hit, china would benifit the most.

You don't think China is advanced? If that button gets pushed, the whole world gets reset into the stone age.

I'm reminded of that one Star Trek episode where Kirk & co. land on a planet to find the very primitive Yang and Com tribes fighting.

Wait, wait. Wait for it... there it is.

Okay, i guess I can try to explain this better...

If you and I were told to live a certain way we'd be pissed, but if your from a place with little social rights then you wouldn't be as pissed.

I'm not saying China isn't industrialized, I'm try to say that the people living there don't have as much to say about their lives as we do. They constantly deal with things we don't like low pay, over crowding and living in a communist country.

Add in that they have more people and more to deal with, I think they can coup with a nuclear fall-out better then we can.

It's kinda like comparing Rolla to SMS. They're similar, but the life-style is pretty different.

You are an idiot.

Comrade America needs to keep out of business it isn't involved in. War is not an answer, it's a result of idiots like you.

Even with all their new technology, China wants no part of any war with the US or her allies. Nuclear or otherwise. Right now China is suffering from the 1-2-4 complex. Thats one young person that has to support two parents, and they have to support four grandparents. So losing their younger generation would be devestating to every aspect of Chinese life, since war usually means the youngest ones fight and die.

I personally see China as an economic gold mine; a country to take over with McDonalds and Wal-Mart. If only we could get them to honor our copywrite laws...
