It really wasn't a show of disrespect as much as it was a sarcatic comment that's basically directed towards whatever arguments that are going to follow due to Bush being able to pick another justice.
And he died. Oh well. Lots of people die everyday. If we attach importance to people that we don't even know we're going to be grieving a lot when these people we've never met die, won't we?

I guess the Daily Show was right. The Wrath of an Angry God has "struck down" a justice and created another "vacancy" on the Court.
Seriously though, I'm pulling for a woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court as a regular justice and just have a current SC Justice be promoted. Don't care which one, I just think that having experience on the Supreme Court would be a good thing before being Chief Justice.

Come on, cut me some slack. Once you get to the Supreme Court Appointee level, everyone pretty much has the same merits. (Or at least they should) The deciding factor for most appointments is the canidate's views. Women have very different legal views/attitudes than men. (Or so my Business Law book tells me) I guess what I'm really trying to get at is more diverse views on the Court, all other things being equal.
