Title says it all. LEO's and ARNG were confiscating guns from homeowners defending their homes from looters, scavengers, etc. Martial Law has NOT been declared. No charges have been filed, just taking the guns.

Who ordered it? Where did you hear this (I haven't heard anything, just wondering where I need to turn my attention)? What if you refuse?

normally i'm against guns, but that place has gone animalistic. people should be allowed to have their guns to protect themselves if they want to.

Why would you be against guns?

You want to see what happens if you refuse to give up your guns or leave?

yea, they should be able to protect themselves. but an old lady even if she had a gun couldnt be able to ward off disease with it, or potential looters.

I saw the video posted above and another one that showed OKARNG soldiers. I also read it on another couple of websites. I saw the NOLA chief of police say that all guns would be confiscated as well. There is even one LEO who posted on another website telling other LEO's what to expect if they had to work in NOLA. He specifically stated that they would take a lot of guns and to try to give the good ones to EMS or other agencies but to take other ones apart and toss the pieces in the water.

They have decided to call it quits on forcing people to leave their homes, but haven't heard that they have stopped confiscating firearms.

Why couldn't she have had food and water saved up for an emergency? That would certainly help against the disease.

And are you saying you wouldn't mind getting shot by an old woman with a .38 special? As if it's any better than being shot by a burly guy with a .22?

Are they keeping records of what they take? Or, in the words of Peter Gibbons, "well, [they] become ours"?

It sounds like these people won't be compensated, which is a violation of Amendment 5.

im not saying this case she needed to be taken from her home or her gun be taken. but just from other things like aid workers being shot at and looted. its hard to help people who just want to be left alone at all costs. to say confiscating all guns is the answer is wrong, but I cant say giving a gun to everyone down there would be a great answer either

You're kidding, right? Granted, I haven't been down there, but I HIGHLY doubt they are keeping any kind of records whatsoever. They aren't giving receipts for the firearms as far as I can tell. Those people are screwed. Well, so is the local/state/federal governments when this mess starts winding down. I think there's going to be some major discussions come out of this whole debacle.

Technically, I think they should be "registered," which if they are, then you could have a little evidence of what happned. But seeing as most of the people I know of are skiddish about registration (for fear of losing them if guncontrol ever takes over) and don't have their guns, or most of them, registered, so I figure you are probably SOL in that case.
