Apparently that Fresh-from-the-assembly-line smell is bad for you. It contains carcinogens styrene and formaldehyde. MMMmmmm, yummy.
Car makers are reducing the smell in new cars.

Hooray Beer!!!

They should replace the new car smell with a fresh bacon smell.

We need to improve our ability to describe smells. I have a bunch of words to describe bad smells (like rotten or stinky), and then "that smells like" (a new car, old people, bubble-gum, ...).

Seriously: let's call the new car smell foog for ease of discussion. I am not a fan of foogy smells, but I do like the new computer smell, er...

Dr. Morrison in our Environmental Engineering Dept. does a lot of stuff with indoor air quality. There are many other things you can add to that list of carcinogens such as new carpets, indoor paints, affects of normal activities on your kitchen countertop that make bad air for you, etc.
