ok, i've been hearing stories about this for year, but just recently a georgia court struck down a law requiring a photo ID to vote calling it a form of "poll tax" and would hurt the voting of the "elderly, poor, and black." Could someone please explain to me the logic of this? I understand that requiring a drivers liscense would be, as it does cost money to get a liscense, but a photo ID? With the amount of corruption accused in elections as of late, i would think that such a basic requirement wouldnt be an impediment to voting. photo ID is required to buy pseudophendrine...

You have to pay to get a state-issued photo ID also. They look just like a driver's license but says "ID" instead of "DL". It costs about the same too. So in a sense, it is a form of poll tax if you are required to pay for something in order to vote. Poor people don't drive, so no DL and they still couldn't afford to buy an ID. No ID, no vote.
It was a good idea to crack down on corruption in elections but it could only work if the photo ID's were free to everyone.
IIRC, I had to show my drivers license to vote back in November. I would think something like this is neccesary to prevent anyone under 18 from voting and to prevent someone from voting twice

I'm not sure how it is arround here, but if you want the convience of voting at the polling place near your registered address, than you have to have an ID. If you don't they allow you to goto board of election commissioners and sign an afidavid.

I would say that it has more to do with cutting down coruption, noone wants that. There must be some way to make sure that coruption is minimized, but that won't happen, it is probably how half of the people get into office.

Here, here is my id. Oh my god, what a burden, ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!11!1!!!!!
Yeah, that would be a burden.
Last time I had to renew my drivers license I had to get off work early, because the place closes early in the evening, stand in line for an hour, only to find out that Missouri law had changed and I needed two forms of primary id just to renew my license.
So I had to go back the next day with my passport (Luckily I even had one, otherwise I would have to find a birth certificate.) Stand in line for an hour, pay $10, take stupid tests, and then renew a freaking driver's license.
Now imagine that you are poor and work all day with no time or car to renew whatever stupid "voting" id the government comes up with every few years.
And then you might realize that having an ID to vote offers no real protection against fraud, but does put a pointless obstacle in front of what should be a simple task.

How do said poor folks get to the polling places? Why doesn't it offer any real protection against fraud? Most DMV's are also open on Saturday mornings.

Yeah, it is stupid to NOT show your ID when voting.
As said above, it is a way to stop corruption. Without showing an ID, anyone could walk in and use someone else's name to vote. It isn't a poll tax, it is life. How the hell could you have a job and function in society without an ID anyway? It is used for so many things.

You can't. But that's what they're so upset about, if the people without jobs who don't function in society couldn't vote (several times) ... the democrats wouldn't win ANY elections!

Your hatred and ignorance gives me an overwhelming warm tingly feeling all over.
More on topic: Corruption could be cut down if people didn't blindly allow computerized voting systems into their polling place. Also if those in charge of ballot boxes were of sound moral fiber, corruption would drop.
