Has anyone ever taken Discrete Math with Mentis, and can give info on what the exams are like? A file would be even better. There's a test Friday, and I need all the help I can get.
I took it last semester. The exams aren't really too tough, particularly the first one (which I assume this is). I still have my first exam. The question topics were:
1) Use TautologyTest to determine if an expression is a tautology.
2) Fill out a truth table for an expression. (On my test, the expression in question is the same expression as the first question.)
3) Prove a statement using logic rules.
4) Verify the correctness of a program segment.
5) Verify the correctness of a program segment which contains statements.
6) Proof with mathematical induction. (The one on the test is a summation, where the summation is sum (i*2^i, i, 1, n) = (n - 1)*2^(n + 1) + 2.)
7) Another proof with mathematical induction. This one is proving that 2^(5n+1)+5^(n+2) is divisible by 27 (for n >= 0).
8) Define a proof by contraposition and a proof by contradiction.
9) Prove the product of two odd integers is always an odd integer.
10) Given a table of values, determine the true or false values of several expressions.
Hopefully that helps a little bit. My guess is that your test won't be too much different, since Mentis is pretty lazy and probably won't go through the trouble of changing it significantly.
It was really easy when I took it with him. I think it's because the grader didn't give a shit, so you could get a problem on a test completely wrong and it was like.... 8/10.

I'm actually a grader for Mentis and I have to say that I do "give a shit." Now, I haven't seen the tests yet but when I took the class with him they were basically reiterations of prior homework assignments. As long as you have done the homework, quizzes, book examples and understand it you should do fine on the test.
Doesn't look like it, http://www.umr.edu/acdmcs/credit-by-examination/clep.html, but you may be able to talk to the department and test out through there. I'm not sure how that works in CS though, or if they even have testing out like that.
This is the only class i have left after this semester in order to graduate
What is your major? If it's CS and you've taken CS 253, your 3xx classes, etc... then I think you can make a very good argument for graduation.
If you're CpE... then it gets harder. Ask you advisor if the dept. will waive it given the circumstances (do you have a job to point at?); if they won't, ask to take the final. If you've taken Phil 15 (Logic), make sure to mention it.
