Tip for new mining engineering students:
If you're going to all do the same surveying report, make sure you at least change it around a little bit so it isnt so obvious. When some of my friends were TAs for various semesters it was kind of pathetic to see the exact same typos on about 6 papers at a time.
And I highly doubt this is confied to just my old department.

My favorite quote from that article was at the bottom:
"A few stats:
- 70 percent of students admit to some cheating on most campuses."
I like how they nail an exact percentage of students on most campuses.

Yeah the Mining Dept students are bad about that. Personally I think its lame. If your too lazy to do it right the first time and too lazy to cheat convincingly, then dont do it at all.

Eh, it wasn't everyone. More often than not a lot of the survey work was group work but when you're told to not word for word copy stuff...those with more than two braincells will write their own report...or at least change it around a little.
The people that are really bad about things like that are also the people that will use their Mining Engineering degree to spend the rest of their lives shoveling the tail pulley or driving a truck. Lots of people join it for the "ooh explosives cool!" factor without realizing that it does take at least some amount of brains + common sense to do most of the work.
Although it seems their has been an upturn in the past couple years in department enrollment I wonder how many of them will turn into quality engineers.
Oh well...in other news: Join the mine rescue team. It's badass!

Bah the mine rescue team is far superior. Looks good on the resume and is a lot of fun. Oh and don't forget the all you can eat crawfish boil at the New Iberia regionals coming up. Sad I'm going to miss it but the Illinois DNR team I'm on is hosting a contest up here around the same time and we can't go to both. Hopefully I can make it back to Rolla around the end of Sept for the UMR contest.

The EE department already does this, or so they say. For all the formal lab reports, we have to submit soft and hard copies. The soft copy get forwarded to Dr. Kosbar and the hard copy get graded and handed back.
