I'm more than satisfied with 16ms.

I became unsatisfied with 16ms. It bothered me initially for a few days, I adjusted to it, then later it started bothering me again. I haven't used anything lower than this, so I can't make another LCD recommendation. If I were you I'd wait for OLEDs to come out. Shouldn't be more than a year or two I think...is that too long to use a CRT?

I've been using the Hyundai L90D+ (one of the best 19" lcd's from many reviews) and it has a 8ms response time that has never bothered me on any fast-paced games. I'm also looking to upgrade to probably a 21"+ widescreen monitor. I was looking at the Dell 2405fpw, but will probably hold off on that until they release their new version with HDCP (supposedly soon). I've also seen Gateway's new 21" widescreen and it's 8ms and looks very nice too.

There is no standard on pixel response rating, so judging a screen based on that alone is not the best way to go.

i can't tell the diff between my 12 and my 8, they are both great for gaming. but i've had a 16 and a 20 and they were unplayable.

just make sure you hit the reviews hard to see which ones have the rep for no dead pixels. you get what you pay for.

Widescreen is the absolute smartest thing you can do as a gamer. I love mine to death (pics below in case you didn't stumble across my other thread). As far as resopnse time is concerned, 16ms never bothered me until I got my new 8ms monitor, then I could immediately tell the difference between the two. How much do you want to spend? I have few recommendations.

19" ViewSonic VA1912wb (this is the one I have).
8ms response
500:1 contrast
300 cd/m^2 brightness
DVI and VGA
$280

21" Gateway FPD2185W
8ms response
1000:1 contrast
Shitpot of connectors (for a monitor)
$599

But, for me to make an absolute recommendation, I need to know your price range.

I've seen the gateway before, and it does look very nice. For about $400 you can get the 20" Dell 2005fpw which is supposed to be a very nice monitor too. I just bought the Dell 2405fpw 24" and it is an amazing monitor, so I can definitely recommend Dell's high end LCD's.

inositle, I am getting the dell 2407fpw once it comes out (supposedly by the end of the month). I am also in the Res College, 3rd floor. Would you mind if I took a look at yours?

Sure, just let me know when. I might be returning it though sometime soon since it ghosts noticeably (mainly in grey/dark areas) and 1920x1200 pushes my system pretty hard in new games.
