I just got Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PC and my computer freezes for a couple seconds frequently. It really stinks when I'm fighting someone and it happens because all of I sudden I'm dead. I'm wondering if the problem is with my graphics card or memory or possibly something else. I'm running on a GeForce 6600GT with 512 RAM. Otherwise I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 3400, plenty of HD space. The graphics card is pretty good, but far from great. I'm thinking about upgrading to a gig of memory. Good idea or no?
Audio/video codecs are a problem as well. There's one called mpeg2(something).ax that seems to cause major problems (inluding reboots and CTDs). Using a program like DXMan (analogx.com), you can delete problematic codecs.
