Firstly, I find it disgusting that people are drawing parallels to the plight of the African Americans in the past century. The social injustices placed upon those people were infringing the rights of US CITIZENS whom just happened to be born to a African American family. The protests and boycots were therefore appropriate and useful because these people were being denied rights given to them by the constitution, AS US CITIZENS. There are no provisions that I know of in the constitution for Illegal Immigrants. If I have missed this along the way, please inform me of it.

I had less strong feelings of this a few weeks ago, when it was just isolated places that were having protests, but after the mexican flag issues, the inappropriate re-writing of our national anthem, and the completely incorrect claim that we are against ILLLEGAL-Immigration because we are racists, I am now beginning to have a much harsher view of the issue. This unfettered ILLEGAL Immigration has cause a massive financial burden on southwestern states social services, not to mention the security issues of having such a porous border. I am NOT anti-Immigrant, I am NOT Anti-Hispanic, but this is all the people against my take on this subject will tell you that I am.

I am not for any plan that will deport the bulk of these people for the obvious reasons that have been stated 100's of times already. However, the continuation of these protests which seem to be trying to blackmail us into doing nothing about the issue of rampant ILLEGAL Immigration because of the difficulities of dealing with the situation appropriately.

My great grandparents came to this country from Germany over 100 years ago, legally and we have been proud American Immigrants ever since. From poor farmer beginnings in the midwest my family is now full of engineers, pharmicists and other professionals. We are living proof of the freedom to succeed that this country holds. We came to this country in search of these better things and went throught the proper channels to get here. Why should it be that while other equally deserving people (hispanics included) should be pushed further down the line because these Illegal Immigrants are jumping ahead of them?

The indians didn't exactly have a formal system of government controlling immigration...

I would like to see your sources of any laws broken when the first europeans came over, if not, then I have a lot of trouble seeing how that pertains to anything.... Deal with it.

In other news, I am currently in Cleveland and saw a bunch of idiots trapsing (sp) around with a Mexican flag. Here's an idea, if Mexico is such a great place, and it is where your heritage is, and the flag you wish to be under, go back. I would even help pay for a bus ticket...

theres nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, but if they were to fly their mexican flag above a US flag then yes I agree with you

I agree with there being nothing wrong with pride in your heritage. however, when you want to be assimilated into a nation (i.e. get citizenship), flying the flag of the country frfom which you came is not the way to do it. I may be proud of my German-Irish-ness, but I am American first, everything else second.

everyone who didnt goto work today who joined in this immigrant protest day needs to be fired. If a group of people can just make up a holiday and not goto work then i would do it everyday. everyone who didnt goto work today should be fired

Notice how companies who hired only legal citizens in the first place didn't have to deal with this crap. People in LA are rejoicing because there was little traffic this morning. Funny how the illegals are too dumb to figure out that they are only hurting the only people that will hire them. All legal business did just fine.

Do a google search on "Aztlan" and you'll see what they really want. They don't want to become part of the US.

But they can't have AZ! That's where I'm moving for a job.

I'd be keen on letting them have most of CA, NM, hell, its even got mexico in the name! Just charge them a "not American citizen" tax, that way we dont lose any money on the deal.....or lease them the states, we killed thier ancestors for it, after all, so its rightfully ours.

I talked with a lot of people in California who hope they protest every day to get the traffic problems down. Since so many of them are uninsured motorists, it helped with the accident angle as well.

What I don't understand is why the INS wasn't at the protests to round people up and deport them. Heck, we could have grabbed 100,000s in one day.
