I've recently made a great discovery of a program called xlink kai that allows any console game that has LAN-enabled play to be tunnelled through a computer and played online.
I just tried it out with GT4 last night, and while it has its issues with online play, it works, and was quite fun.
Anyone out there (especially in Rolla!) who has GT4... get this!! And let me know if you have issues with setting it up (for GT4). It would be awesome to be able to play with some people nearby.

There is a version of GT4 that Sony is currently beta testing that has an online version. I would expect this version to be out with in a month or 2. I know this to be true because they offered me a spot to test it but by the time I replied, all of the spots had been filled

I doubt they will re-release GT4 w/ online capabilities. There's no indication from Polyphony that this online beta will lead to GT4 Online being released. Its very likely, however, that it is being used to test their online engine for GT5.

They will be relerasing this game otherwise they would not have asked for people outside of sony to test it as they got about 2000 people to test it.

Just because people outside Sony/Polyphony were asked to beta test does not mean at all that it will be released. The chances of it are higher, of course, but in no way is it official. Like I said before, its very very likely that it was just to test online technology for future games, and the amount of volume needed to test something of this sort could not be obtained within Sony/Polyphony.

It has yet to be announced as an actual product, but rather it's being viewed, a bit like E3 2006's Gran Turismo HD, as a tool for testing technology.

The only places I see talk of it being released are on message boards.
I would love to see GT4 Online released... but I'm not getting my hopes up.
