It's been popping up all over the net. E3, the big game expo in May will be shutting it's doors for good after several key software/hardware companies are pulling out for good. Leading those in charge to cancel it indefinitely.

This is a damn shame... I've always wanted to go to it and it was always interesting seeing Sony, Nintendo and MS do a 3-way battle for their sides.

Looks like everything is going to be broken down into several small shows where they can get more of the limelight.

All the big game sites are reporting this. Just seem to be some downtime media fodder. It may be true, but I am holding off till closer to the event. I think the convention might occur, just on a smaller scale.

On the flip-side the money could be better spent on marketing campaigns, or heaven forbid the games themselves.

Yes, it's sad that the show is disappearing, but nothing was really revealed anymore. Everyone knew everything there was to know about the 360 before E3 last year, Tokyo Game Show pretty much gave everything away about the PS3, and has Nintendo ever revealed anything about anything at E3? I don't think it will be missed as much as you think.

Not quite. Downsizing, yes, but not canceling according to this source. Less festival, more closed-door business and journalism hookups it appears.

As long as everyone keeps making games and hardware, I could care less about the media around it.
