I was wondering if any of you used a browser such as thunderbird or outlook to view your minermail.

I am highly considering Mozilla Thunderbird, but I want to know if itll actually be worth the 2 mins to dl and install or not, lol.

I use Thunderbird in IMAP mode at home. Works pretty well, except I've never figured out how to access the GAL . Kind of annoying if you look up contacts with any regularity.

If you are using Windows I highly recomend using Microsoft Outlook (the actual program), as it runs efficently (as far as a Windows program can) in the background on your computer, and a number of organizations on campus use it for scheduling meetings and events.

I've never been able to figure out how to use minermail as a mail relay (SMTP) in thunderbird offcampus. The web interface is terrible, it sucks trying to find mail in the piles of spam. I always use thunderbird to sort out spam, the spamassassin thing they have seems to have a lot more false positives than the adaptive TB filter, but of course I have to use to stupid web interface to send mail.

Configuring Outlook XP for IMAP or POP3

1. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mail.
2. Click on "E-Mail Accounts..." then click Next.
3. Choose "Add a new e-mail account" then click Next.
4. Choose either IMAP or POP3, whichever service you wish to setup.
5. Enter your User information, your Logon Information, and the following Server Information:

POP3/IMAP: minermail.umr.edu
SMTP: smtp.umr.edu

6. Click "More Settings..."
7. Select Advanced Tab and check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under IMAP/POP3.
8. Do this Step if you are off-campus and NOT dialing into UMR. Select Outgoing Server and check, "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Press OK, Next, and Finish.

Your IMAP or POP3 account using Outlook XP is now setup.

I pretty much just followed those directions and translated them into Thunderbird...

Do you use it with IMAP? The problem I had, was that it would always try to download the Public Folders and the messages inside of them, and there are like 10,000 messages there.

Do you have a link for evolution?

Doing a search for evolution turns up 615 million hits on google.

Thank you,

Quick google tip: since you know it is a email client, try something like evolution mail in the google search. It is the first result.

I did, but ya, I got all the messages from all 4 (5?) UM campuses. I just use POP. I do have address book setup though to get all the e-mails though. I could find out how I did that, I sortof forgot.
