i have a vga monitor and was wondering if it would be worth it to get the adapter to run my monitor through the DVI port on my video card..

I don't think it will make a difference. Adapters are really only necceary if your card doesn't have VGA at all. Think about it like this. Would you rather have the digital to analog done by your video card or a small adapter.

The DVI connector (sometimes/usually/possibly) has analog as well as digital outputs. No conversion is used.

there are 3 standards for dvi.. dvi-d, dvi-a, and dvi-i (digital only, analog only, and both)

so if u have a dvi-d connection you cant use an adapter to go to analog since the signals are not there. and if u have a digial only lcd you cant use dvi-a for the same reason.. though now adays dvi-i is perty much standard.. i had a radon 9200 with dvi-d and it pissed me off to no end

there seems to be a movement towards dvi-d thanks to dells high end monitors. You also need a rather high end video card to have the dvi-d. evil

Yeah, the really high resolution ones, like the Apple and Dell 30" displays use DVI-DualLink, which is basically 2 DVI ports in one. But I think the ports still carry analog signals unless a duallink monitor is plugged in
