While playing music in my windows media player 10, the CPU usage goes to 80 or 85%. I updated my drivers and tried uninstalling some codecs to speed things up, but with no luck. I don't recall this being a problem with my old computer.

Any ideas?

Computer is 2.8 P-D, 3G ram (playing music shouldn't be a problem)

I don't know what could be causing that problem, but you could try another media player.

You could try VLC media player, found here: http://www.videolan.org/

This is an open source media player which plays almost any media file type. It even plays Quicktime files! Winamp and Media Player Classic are also good choices.

Winamp: http://www.winamp.com
